Vacuum Cleaner Parts

While vacuum cleaners are fairly simple to own and operate, the majority contain at least a few removable parts and accessories. Some of these parts require regular or occasional replacement for proper operation of the machine. Among the most frequently replaced parts are vacuum cleaner bags, filters, and belts. For upright or canister models that use bags, it is essential that the bag be replaced in a timely fashion when it becomes full; otherwise, the machine will lose suction and may become clogged. Additionally, belts can wear out and break over time, but simply replacing a worn or broken belt can bring new life to an old vacuum cleaner. The filter is another item that can become clogged over time. Some vacuum filters can be cleaned and re-installed, but others are more disposable and easier to replace than to revive. The majority of bags, filters and belts can be found as brand-specific or generic models in many home stores. They can also be purchased online.

In addition to parts that are essential for proper operation of the machine, many vacuums feature accessories that can be switched out for cleaning of different surfaces. Most upright or canister models come with hose attachments including extender wands and upholstery cleaners. The body of the canister or upright vacuum often has connection points to attach these accessories when not in use, which can keep them from being lost. However, if an attachment is lost or broken, it is usually possible to purchase a brand-specific or generic replacement online or in stores.
